Three-level white house with wood-lined cantilevered overhangs and glass railings, seen from the pool

Hillside House No. 1

Honolulu

From the street it reads as a subtle, single-story house; from the pool, three levels open toward Diamond Head and the sea. Fitting them on a steep slope and under the height limit was almost a mathematical exercise. Post-tensioned concrete keeps the floors thin, 12-foot cantilevered lānai and overhangs shade the rooms, and a central stair rises through all three levels like a helix.
